President Duterte is now on singapore and will pay a courtesy call on Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam and then meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today to start off his two-day state visit in the country.
The official welcome ceremony for Duterte will be took place at Istana, meaning “palace” and the official residence of Tan. based on the statement posted on the website Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Tan will also host a state banquet in honor of Duterte and members of his delegation, the ministry said Duterte is here upon the invitation of Tan to visit as new ASEAN leader.
Tomorrow, Prime Minister Lee will host lunch for Duterte and his party and later set meetings with the Singaporean business leaders, the ministry added.
The ministry confirms that Duterte set to visit the Singapore Botanical Gardens where an orchid would be named in his honor.
Duterte will also meet the Filipino community before departing for the Philippines, the ministry said.
Duterte arrived here from Cambodia where he also had a state visit.
Singaporean ministry also confirm the attendance of Duterte’s official delegation includes Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr., Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez,National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr.,
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea,Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa and other senior officials.
The registration for Duterte’s meeting with the Filipino community organized by the Philippine embassy had surpassed the venue’s maximum capacity of 6,000 people based on Channel News Asia initial reports.
